The Little Prince, by Antoinne Saint Auxperry

"To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hu ndred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world..."
"My life is very monotonous...But if you tame me, it will be as if the sun came to shine on my life...."
"One only understands the things that one tames..."
"What must I do, to tame you?" asked the little prince."You must be very patient," replied the fox. "First you will sit down at a little distance from me-- like that-- in the grass. I shall look at you out of the corner of my eye, and you will say nothing. Words are the source of misunderstandings. But you will sit a little closer to me, every day..."
"You are not at all like my rose," he said. "As yet you are nothing. No one has tamed you, and you have tamed no one. You are like my fox when I first knew him. He was only a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But I have made him my friend, and now he is unique in all the world."
"You are beautiful, but you are empty," he went on. "One could not die for you. To be sure, an ordinary passerby would think that my rose looked just like you--the rose that belongs to me. But in herself alone she is more important than all the hundre ds of you other roses: because it is she that I have watered; because it is she that I have put under the glass globe; because it is she that I have sheltered behind the screen; because it is for her that I have killed the caterpillars (except the two or three that we saved to become butterflies); because it is she that I have listened to, when she grumbled, or boasted, or even sometimes when she said nothing. Because she is my rose. "
"Goodbye...And now here is my secret, a very simple secret:
It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye."
"It is the time you have wasted for your rose that makes your rose so important."
"You become responsible, forever, for what you have tamed. You are responsible for your rose..."

Excerpts from "The Wheel Of Fortune" by Susan Howatch

In our lives there are choices which have to be made, and our freedome to choose means we have at least some control over our fate.

The circle of time is full of little circle and those litte circles can be prisons. People can be locked up in them without the will to force their way out.

Distrust grows out of lies. Wrongdoing grows out of distrust. Tragedy grows out of wrongdoing. But out of honesty grows love and love is so powerfull. It'll be lieka suit of armor, protecting you.

I trust you. I agree you've done dreadful things, but now you're trying to do what's right, you're being honest adn truthful adn brave, and so long as you're honest adn truthful you can't get in a mess by living a lie, and so long as you're brave you can't despise yourself for cowardice, adn so long as you're all those things you'll be strong enough to draw those lines, as the English say so strangely when all they mean is choosing the right circle to live in, adn once the lines are drawn you'll be the man you want to be and the man I know you are, and you'll be safe.

There's no timetable for grief. Grief isn't a train which you catch at the station.

...but the memory's here isn't it, and memories are so preciuos, such a comfort, because no on can take them away from you...

God's magic, that's all. It's all the things we can't see or explain. It's the rhythm of life. It's the circle of time.

A dream? Yes, of course it was a dream, but what was wrong with that? If no one ever dreamed of perfection, reality would always be nothing but unalleviated ghastliness, but sometimes, very occassionally, reality was no longer sordid but dazzling. A vision of all that was finest in human nature, a view of the absolute truth,a glimpse of God.

Guilt is an all powerful jailer.
By loving othere we shall make a giant step towards our own perfection. Let us not love people because they were great. Let us hope and try so that by loving them, we assist them in becoming even better persons.
My life is like the summer rose
That opens to the morning sky
But ere, the shades of evening close
Is scattered on the ground - to die!
Music I heard with you was more than music
And bread i broke with you was more than bread
Now that I am without you all is desolate
And what was once so beautiful is dead.
If it'll please you, i'll die of depression. My mouth, shut at last, won't upset your moods. Once i felt you turned to me as a friend, but now you turn aside - life's altered you. That natural law of change, decay and death works within us all, but you cannot wait to see me go. I hopd God cripples your haste.
I've experienced all the hardships of life; but love's far and away the worst I've known.
I made you many a many songs
Yet never one told all you are -
It was a though a net of words
Were flung to catch a star!
Good-by, My Fancy!
Farewell, Dear Mate, Dear Love!
I'm going away, I know not where,
Or to what fortune
Or whether I may ever see you again
All I hope is you'll learn how my heart loved you, and hear the silent voice of my true self.
My heart, so tired and hurt
will sleep now and rest
it will not beat for as long as years
Until you say that you care
He is free
Who learns
How to free himself
From what stops him
From being free
- W. Chagas
I ended up with a broken fiddle-
And a broken laugh,
And a thousand memories,
and not a single regret
There are gains for all our losses,
There are balms for all our pain
But when youth, the dream departs,
It takes something from our hearts
And it never comes again
And for a breather of ecstasy, give all you have been or could be!
And we are voiceless in the presence of realities - we cannot speak
when hearts, whose truth was proven
Like thine, are laid in earth
There should a wreath be woven
To tell the world their world
Be courteous to all, but intimate with few, and let those few be well tried before you give them your confidence. True friendship is a plat of slow growth, and must undergo and withstand the shocks of adversity before it is entitled to the appellation
I walked a mile with joy
and she chattered all the way
but left me none the wiser
for all she had to say

I walked a mile with sorrow
and never a word said she
but oh! the things i've learned
when suffering walked with me
Do something for somebody, gladly
'twill sweeten your every care;
In sharing the sorrow of others,
Your own are less hard to bear
Do something for somebody always
Whatever may be your creed -
There's nothing on earth can help you
So much as a kindly deed
If you were busy being kind,
Before you knew it, you would find
You'd soon forget to think 'twas true
that someone was unkind to you

If you were busy being glad,
And cheering people who are sad,
'though your heart might ache a bit
You'd soon forget to notice it.
When all the petals of your dreams wither, and
What remains are but the thorns of harsh realities,
Find the courage to begin all over again.
Dream of better days.
Let not discouragement overwhelm you.
When lack of understanding darkens your reputation
When you are despised for no reason at all,
When lies about you peirce your heart,
Remember than in these moments
What is asked of you is love, humility
and that resignation which is founded
on the strong belief that truth
always wins in the end
Beyond this vale of tears, there is a life above
unmeasured by the flight of years;
and all that life is love
